Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel
On Monday 28th March, Greenisland Primary School will competing in the ‘Big Walk and Wheel’ challenge for a week. Children are trying to complete as many ‘active’ journeys as possible -going to and from school. Please encourage your child(ren) to walk, cycle or scoot to school for that week and certainly join in too, where you can. The weather forecast so far suggests it will be dry. For those that live further away, you could park somewhere nearby and walk to the school gates. Don’t worry if this isn’t possible, we will also be doing plenty of active things in school to make up for it, for example the Daily Mile. However, we would greatly appreciate if as many children as possible could participate.
We have plenty of designated places to park bikes and scooters in our grounds. Teachers will inform their classes of the facilities and spaces to use. Hopefully, this will be a fun, experiment allowing children to develop a little independence, as well as promoting fitness and the benefits of daily exercise. We are thinking the children will arrive to school refreshed and wide awake!
There will be daily prizes to be won during the week and we will be competing against many other schools in Northern Ireland, and the UK. Greenisland always does well in national competitions so we are anticipating a good response.
